Feb 7, 2018-An integrated settlement built by the Dhurmus-Suntali Foundation has been handed over to the families of Chandrapur Municipality-8, Rautahat, who were displaced by August 2017 flood.
President Bidya Devi Bhandari handed over the key to the settlement to Jaya Narayan Majhi, the chairman of the settlement management committee, in a function on Tuesday.
Addressing the handover ceremony, President Bhandari praised the actors duo Sitaram Kattel (Dhurmus) and Kunjana Ghimire (Suntali) for their philanthropic works.
“Dhurmus and Suntali are doing works that are normally done by the state. This is indeed an incomparable service to the society,” the head of state said.
Executive Director of the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) Yubaraj Bhusal said the Dhurmus-Suntali Foundation was doing an exemplary work for the country.
Arjun Neupane, project manager of the Dhurmus-Suntali Foundation, said the settlement which cost Rs 59.48 million is built on 12 Katthas of land and has homes for 47 families from the impoverished Musahar, Dusad, Chamar, Lohar, Teli and Tharu communities.
“The buildings are not only children and disabled-friendly, but they are also earthquake resilient and flood proof,” he said.
The settlement also has a community hall, a school building, a club hall, a view tower and two temples. This is the fourth such project of the Dhurmus-Suntali Foundation
The foundation stone for the settlement was laid on September 20, 2017.
The new homeowners had been living in flimsy huts on the bank of the Bagmati river after their previous homes were displaced by the last year’s flood.
