CPN-UML dumped me: Blast victim
Feb 8, 2018-Sarita Rai, who lost her left leg in an IED blast during an election rally in the run-up to the last year’s general elections, has finally returned her home in Chandrapur Municipality-5, Rautahat, after two and half months long hospital stay in Bharatpur, Chitwan.
Sarita and her seven-year-old son Jaibik were reportedly held hostage by the hospital authority for some days because she did not have the money to pay for her treatment. The mother and son were finally allowed to leave after CPN-UML leader Ram Kumar Bhattarai assured to foot the medical expenses.
Sarita, her husband Krishna Bahadur and their three children live in a rented room at Chidiyadaha settlement in Chandrapur Municipality. Having lost one of her legs, Sarita is now unsure how her family is going to survive.
“My husband is ill of health. It was me who used to work to put food on the table and pay the rent. I do not know what will happen to us,” she said.
Sarita was among the six people injured in the IED explosion during the UML election rally at Radhakrishna Temple in Chandrapur-2 on November 18. Her son Jaibik had also suffered shrapnel wounds in his both legs.
“I decided to join the rally because the local UML leaders insisted that we come to show our support. Those leaders have now turned their backs on me,” she said.
The family’s room rent is long due and the food stock is running out, but they have no means to get out of the situation.
“The family is struggling to get by. I urge the state and other concerned organisations to look after them,” said UML leader Bhattarai.
