Saraswoti no match for mighty MMC

May 8, 2018-Sujal Shrestha scored twice as Manang Marshyangdi Club (MMC) hammered Saraswoti Youth Club of Kathmandu 5-0 to enter the semi-finals of the Damak Gold Cup football tournament here on Monday.

Apart from Shrestha, Bimal Basnet, Tirtha Basnet and Subash Gurung also scored one each for the ‘A’ Division giants. MMC will now meet departmental giants Tribhuvan Army Club in the semi-finals on Wednesday. Nepal Police Club and Nepal Armed Police Force Club will meet in the first last four match on Tuesday.

MMC dominated the game from the outset but were unlucky not to find the back of the net despite exerting consistent pressure in the first half. Shrestha created the first chance in the game unleashing a powerful drive at the frame in the 13th minute but Saraswoti custodian Ashok Baral punched it to safety. Shrestha then failed to connect a sublime cross

from Bimal Rana in the 29th minute.

Shrestha was close to giving MMC the lead in the 36th minute but his shot hit the woodworks. The midfielder finally broke through after the resumption utilising a cross from Deepak Rai in the 49th. Bimal then double the lead scoring in a rebound after Baral failed to grip a free kick from Shrestha.

Tirtha virtually ended Saraswoti’s comeback chance making 3-0 following a cross from Kamal Shrestha in the 85 minute.
