Police arrest 11 illegal North Korean workers
May 6, 2018-A team from the Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD) has arrested 11 North Koreans illegally working in Nepal. The arrests were made during a raid at Durbarmarg-based Pyongyang Arirang Restaurant on Friday, according to Superintendent of Police Dhiraj Pratap Shah at the MPCD. An investigation into the case is ongoing and detailed information will be made public later, Shah added.
The MPCD team under the command of an inspector had raided the restaurant. The workers were arrested after they failed to produce required documents to work in Nepal.
This is a rare case of North Koreans with tourist visa working in Nepal. Foreigners, under the prevailing law, are prohibited from working in the country without permit from the Department of Labour.
