Resham Chaudhary’s health deteriorates as his hunger strike enters day 6

Mar 9, 2018-The health condition of Rastriya Janata Party lawmaker Resham Chaudhary, who has been staging an indefinite hunger strike at Kailali district prison for the past six days, has been deteriorating.

Chaudhary, the main accused in Tikapur incident, and 24 others accused had begun an indefinite hunger strike at Kailali District Prison from Sunday.

Chaudhary was rushed to Seti Zonal Hospital for treatment. But he had to be taken back to the prison after he refused to undergo treatment.

Assistant Jailer at District Prison Kailali Bhakta Bahadur Bista said Chaudhary was taken to the hospital after his health started worsening significantly as he has not eaten anything for the past six days. “His blood pressure was low, but he refused to use saline water.”

The prison staffers said that Chaudhary has demanded the prison authority administer saline water to him.

The jail staffers have also conducted health check-up of five hunger striking accused after their health deteriorated.

All 25 accused, who are in judicial custody for their alleged involvement in Tikapur incident in which eight security personnel and a two-year-old child were killed in 2015, staged the hunger strike to press their demands.

The protesters have been demanding the authority provide election victory certificate to Chaudhary, allow him to take oath of office and secrecy, release all 26 accused in Tikapur incident with due compensation and address the demands raised by Tharuhat Struggle Committee.

RJPN candidate Chaudhary had won the parliamentary election with a wide margin of 20,935 votes from Kailali-1.
