Cash recovered from Tara Air crash site deposited to DAO pledge account

Feb 9, 2018-Police have deposited the cash recovered from a crash site, where a Tara Air Twin Otter had crashed two years ago, into a pledge account. The amount has been deposited into Myagdi District Administration Office’s pledge account in order to close the crash investigation case.

A Tara Air Twin Otter with registration 9N-AHH had crashed minutes after taking off from Pokhara on February 24, 2016 at Solighopte in Dana VDC of Myagdi district. All 23 people on board were killed. The turboprop aircraft, which was on a 20-minute scheduled flight to Jomsom, a popular trekking destination, had lost contact with air traffic control 10 minutes after take-off.

Security personnel involved in the search and rescue operation following the incident had recovered Rs 170,900 from the crash site. No one from the victims’ family have came forward to claim the amount.

“We have deposited the recovered cash to DAO’s pledge account and anyone claiming to be the heir of the amount can come with proof and take their respective amounts,” said Chief District Administrator Krishna Prasad Adhikari, “Depositing these types of money into the revenue account would amount to collapse that is why we have put it in a non-collapsable pledge account.”

The police had, earlier, handed over various ornaments recovered from the sites to the next of kin, however, no one came forward for claim the cash.
