May 2, 2018-Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has suggested naming Province 1 as Sagarmatha or Koshi.
Addressing a programme organised to inaugurate the Drinking Water Project in Damak of Jhapa district on Wednesday, PM Oli said, “Saptakoshi River flows in this province but we are reluctant to say Koshi Pradesh. World’s highest peak Mount Everest is in this province we find it hard to call Sagarmatha Province.”
Expressing his concerns over the delay in naming the province and fixing its capital, PM drew the attention of province government towards the same.
Saying that the Province 6 has already given a name and fixed its capital, PM Oli said that the province 1 should learn something from Province 6.
“Province 6 shouldn’t be called Province No 6 anymore. The Province has already been named as Karnali Province. It has fixed Surkhet as its permanent capital,” said PM Oli.
He also drew the attention of Internal Affairs and Law Minister of the province Hikmat Karki over the delay in naming the Province 1.
