May 3, 2018-Senior orthopedic surgeon at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) Dr Govinda KC has warned of resorting to another strike if the Health Profession Education (HPE) Act is not endorsed immediately as per the ordinance tabled earlier in the parliament.
At a press meet organised at TUTH in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu on Thursday, Dr KC put forth a four-point demand including the endorsement of the HPE Act. He expressed his hopes that the Act will be endorsed by the upcoming session of the federal parliament.
He underlined the need for legal provision to end the anomalies existing in the medical education and health profession.
The anti- corruption crusader said the personal interests of various political parties and their leaders earlier have caused obstruction in the formulation of the Act despite tabling the ordinance in the parliament.
Dr KC has also demanded the government rollback its decision to include Maitighar as a prohibited zone to stage demonstration.
Likewise, the TUTH senior orthopedic surgeon also pointed out that action must be taken as per the recommendations made by the Judicial Inquiry Council report against the accused Tribhuvan University officials saying that the rights taken away by the TU must be given back to the Institute of Medicine (IoM) to make it more autonomous.
Similarly, Dr KC has also demanded action against former Chief Justice Gopal Prasad Parajuli after conducting a thorough investigation saying that political meddling in the appointment of new Chief Justice must stop immediately.
