Shrestha saw off the close contest from his clubmate Hari Prasad Rimal, who completed the 42.195km race in 2:54:53. The Army club clean swept the podium places Khagendra Bhatta won the third place in 2:57:37. Shrestha received Rs 100,000, Rimal got Rs 75,000 and Bhatta earned Rs 50,000.
Tirtha Pun claimed the 21km half marathon ahead of Army duo Ramji Basnet, who finished second, and Tikaraj Katwal, who finished third. The top three athletes received Rs 50,000, Rs 35,000 and Rs 25,000.
Sunil Thapa won the 5km race for athletes under the age of 16 years. Sanjay Rai finished third and Satendra Yadav third. The three winners in the category earned Rs 10,000, Rs 7,000 and Rs 5,000.
In all 73 Nepalese and 24 foreign athletes took part in the race.
