India awards scholarship to 200 Nepali students
Mar 9, 2018-Two hundred Nepali students have been awarded with the India's "Golden Jubilee Scholarship Scheme" for 2017-2018 on Friday.
The scholarship scheme which is considered as the prestigious one enables selected Nepali students to continue studying MBBS, BE, BS.c, BA, B.Ed, BBA and under-graduate courses at various universities and colleges in Nepal.
This scheme was started by the Government of India in 2002 for meritorious Nepali students to mark the completion of 50 years of India-Nepal Economic Cooperation that started in 1951.
Under this scholarship scheme, an MBBS student receives Rs 4,000 per month for five years while a BE student is provided Rs 4,000 per month for four years and a student studying in other under-graduate courses receives Rs 3,000 per month for three years. So far more than 2,150 Nepali students have been benefitted from this scholarship scheme from across 77 districts of Nepal.
Shanker Das Bairagi, Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nepal and India's Ambassador for Nepal, Manjeev Singh Puri, congratulated them for their selection for the award amidst a programme here today.
On the occasion, they advised the students to achieve personal and professional fulfillment, which will contribute to further deepening and strengthening India-Nepal relations.
These scholarships are part of India's effort to support human resources development in Nepal for the overall socio-economic development here, the Embassy said. RSS
