560 motorbike riders arrested for flouting traffic rules
Mar 1, 2018-Traffic police have arrested 560 motorbike riders for violating the traffic rules on the day of Phagu Purnima, the festival of colours, on Thursday.
According to DSP Mukunda Marasini, Assistant spokesperson at the Metropolitan Traffic Police Office, most of arrestees were found riding the bikes without proper documents.
He said that 20 persons were found riding the bikes under the influence of alcohol and 16 were found riding the bikes carrying three people.
Meanwhile, three road accidents have been reported in the Kathmandu Valley as of 2 pm today.
DSP Marasini informed that traffic police are carrying out checking in 69 places of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur.
He said that checking would be carried out in 100 places until this evening.
Marasini said, “There will be more people violating the traffic rules in the evening than in the afternoon. That is why; we will carry out checking effectively in the evening.”
He said that mobile police teams have also been mobilised to prevent from any untoward incident.
Likewise, according to SSP Bishwo Raj Pokharel of the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu, 141 persons have been arrested for their alleged involvement in disturbing the peace.
Among the arrestees, 138 are men and three are women, SSP Pokharel informed.
