11 tonne waste removed from rivers, Ring Road


Mar 25, 2018-As much as 11 tonnes of garbage was removed from the rivers and Ring Road in the Capital on Saturday as part of the weekly cleanup campaigns.

The Bagmati Cleanup Campaign, which entered its 254th week, saw volunteers collect three tonnes of waste from the river near Guheshwori temple in the Pashupati area. Personnel from security agencies, representatives of the High-Powered Bagmati Civilization Integrated Development Committee and different social organisations took part in the clean-up drive.

Despite the festival of Ram Nawami, a huge number of locals and campaigners joined in the drive on Saturday.

One tonne of garbage was managed from the Bagmati river upstream the Guheshwori temple, said Chairman of Pudasaini Friendship Society Uttam Pudasaini.

Similarly, Rudramati cleanup campaign entered its 209th week, with volunteers collecting three tonnes of garbage and organising awareness event on the premises of Ram Mandir in Kathmandu Metropolis-32. Former Additional Inspector General of Nepal Police Bigyan Raj Sharma was among campaigners who joined the event.

Similarly, Bishnumati River Cleanup Campaign entered its 180th week and the Ring Road cleanup campaign 50th week.

Also on Saturday, one tonne of garbage was managed after the cleanup campaign at Aloknagar in Minbhawan area that entered the 50th week. Meanwhile, three tonnes of garbage was collected from the cleanup activities in Balaju area under the Ring Road cleanup campaign, coordinator of the Ring Road Cleanup Campaign Tara Bahadur Kunwar said.
