Writ at SC against nomination of NA members

Feb 23, 2018-Three persons recommended for nomination to National Assembly by the erstwhile Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government have filed a writ at the Supreme Court (SC) on Friday.

Gopal Basnet, Krishna Paudel and Chandani Joshi this afternoon filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court demanding an interim order to withdraw the decision of incumbent government regarding the nomination of three members to the NA.

In the writ, they have argued that the decision made by the Deuba-led government should not be revoked and they should be nominated to the NA.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers and newly nominated three members to the NA have been made defendants.

Earlier, President Bidya Devi Bhandari refused to approve the names of three persons recommended by the Deuba-led caretaker government to the NA. She, however, had endorsed the names recommended by the government led by KP Sharma Oli.

There is a provision that the President should nominate three members including a woman in the 59-member NA.

President Bhandari had nominated Ram Narayan Bidari, Yuvaraj Khatiwada and Bimala Rai to the NA on Wednesday.
