Unbeaten Army build solid lead at the top


Feb 27, 2018-Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) maintained their winning streak in the Kwiks Basketball League with yet another comfortable away success on Monday.

Ayush Singh tossed in 15 points as the Armymen trounce Himalayan Hounds 71-50 at their home court in Shankar Dev Campus for their fifth victory. TAC currently lead the standings with 15 points while Kirtipur Basketball Team have nine points with two matches in hand. Kirtipur and TAC are yet to play each other.

Hounds, meanwhile, lost their third match and have six points. They stay third with better score difference after being tied on six points with Team Budanilkantha Municipality, who also have a match in hand. Bishal Milan Kendra (BMK) and Golden Gate International College (GGIC) have three points each, while South Siders Basketball Club and Xavier International College are yet to open their accounts.

A dominating display in the first two quarters shaped up victory for TAC. They opened with an 11-point lead in the first quarter, scoring 22 against the 11 of the Hounds. The match virtually looked over for Hounds after TAC added a whooping 22 points in the second period and restricted the hosts to just four opening up a massive 29-point advantage.

Hounds pulled some respectability to total with five-point lead in the third quarter (16-11). They poured in 19 points in the fourth quarter, three more than TAC but the game was already lost before the break. Singh also had four rebounds and three steal in the game. Binod Maharjan had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds apart from three assists.

Rabin Khatri also managed 12 points for TAC and had five rebounds and four steal. Saurav Shrestha, the star performer in the first week with 103 points, 42 rebounds and 20 turn overs, continued to be the key player for Hounds scoring a match-high 18 with three three-pointers, took seven rebounds apart from making three assists. Rajendra Thagunna scored all of his 15 points from three-pointers.

On Tuesday, BMK will host GGIC in the morning at Bishalnagar and Xavier will take on Hounds at home court in Kalopul in the afternoon.
