Feb 21, 2018-The Federal Parliament Secretariat is preparing to hold the swearing in for Federal Parliament lawmakers and National Assembly members on March 4, a day before the first meeting of the Federal Parliament.
President Bidya Devi Bhandari on February 19 had summoned the first session of the Federal Parliament on March 5.
Federal Parliament Secretariat Bharat Gautam said the House of Representatives members and National Assembly members would be administered the oath of office and secrecy on the same day but at different time.
There are 275 lawmakers in the Federal Parliament and 59 members in National Assembly.
According to law, senior-most lawmaker or member should chair the first meeting of both the assemblies.
The Election Commission (EC) said that Rastriya Janata Party (RJP) lawmaker Mahendra Raya Yadav of Sarlahi-2 is the senior-most lawmaker of the Federal Parliament. According to his citizenship certificate, he is 80 years old now.
The Parliament Secretariat said in case if Yadav refuses to chair the meeting, it should prepare the list of others persons to chair the meeting.
In the same manner, RJP Presidium Coordinator Mahanta Thakur is the alternative name. Thakur, who had won the Federal Parliament election from Mahottari-3, is 75 years old. Apart from him, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba is the senior-most lawmaker. He was elected to the Federal Parliament from Dadeldhura-1.
In a 59-member National Assembly, Hari Charan Shivakoti, 69, of CPN-UML is the senor-most member and Tara Devi Bhattar of the Nepali Congress is of the same age.
The third name is Radhe Shyam Adhikari who is 68 years old.
Before administering the oath to the lawmakers, both the senior-most members should take the oath.
Spokesperson Gautam said that a public notice has already been issued to take part in the swearing in ceremony.
