Jan 7, 2018-The Supreme Court on Sunday reinstated Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) Dr Shasi Sharma to the post of Dean of the Institute of Medicine (IoM).
A joint bench of Chief Justice Gopal Parajuli and Justice Dipak Kumar Karki, hearing on a writ petition filed by Dr Sharma against his removal from the post without citing any concrete reason, issued a certiorari order annulling the Tribhuvan University decision to appoint Prof Dr Rakesh Prasad Shrivastav as the IoM Dean.
The TU Executive Council on January 10, 2014 had appointed Dr Sharma as the Dean of IoM. Later on January 22, 2014, the then government removed Dr Sharma from the post owing to Dr Govinda KC’s protest. Dr KC, during his protest, had argued that the TU had appointed the IoM dean by overlooking seniority and had demanded the university rectify it’s decision and appoint the IoM dean as per the norms.
Meanwhile, with the SC decision, Dr Sharma will only get to stay on the post for only four days as his tenure ends on Wednesday (January 10).
