NSC Championships: Police, Western Region off to flying starts


Jan 1, 2018-Nepal Police Club and Far Western Region made flying starts to the National Women’s Football League which kicked off on Sunday under the National Sports Council Championships at the Anfa Complex in Satdobato.

Nirmala BK struck four goals alone to guide the departmental giants to a 6-2 thumping of Central Region in the curtain raiser while Far Western hammered Eastern Region 4-0. BK gave the 11th minute lead to NPC before doubling their advantage with another goal two minutes later. Amrita Jaisi made it 3-0 in the 19th before Central cut the deficit in the 26th minute through Sabita Rana Magar. BK completed her hat-trick in the 36th minute. BK netted her fourth goal in the 49th minute before skipper Ghim Kumari Ghale rubbed more salts to the Central Region wounds by scoring in the 72nd minute through penalty. Mithila Kuswar pulled back another goal for Central in the 79th minute.

The other matches of the day saw Chandra Bhandari and Sirsha Karki score two goals each in comfortable Far Western win over Eastern. Bhandari gave ninth minute lead to Far West and doubled the tally in the 37th. Karki netted late goals in the 82nd and 89th to seal the comprehensive victory. Tribhuvan Army Club will take on Western Region and Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club will be up against Mid Western Region on Monday.

Played under league-cum-knockout format the tournament features eight teams—five regional and three departmental. Police, Eastern, Far Western and Central Regions are pitted in Group ‘A’ while Group ‘B’ consists of Army, APF, Western and Mid Western Regions. Top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals.

The winners earn Rs 200,000 and the runners up will get Rs 100,000. Third place finishers will receive Rs 50,000. The best individual performers—goalkeeper, defender, midfielder and forward—will be rewarded with Rs 25,000 apiece.
