Jan 25, 2018-India has constructed a bridge on the no man’s land at Khalepuruwa in Gulariya-10, according to local residents. Naresh Lodh, a local man, said the Indian authorities have built the bridge and the road on the area that falls on the no man’s land, 16 metres south of Nepal-India border pillar number 61/647.
He added that the bridge over the Surya stream has been responsible for floods in Mathuraharidwar area during monsoon. The border area residents said the bridge has been constructed by elevating the ground level by three metres, which causes floodwaters from the stream to enter towards the Nepali side. The Indian authorities had reportedly forced their way and built the bridge and the road despite the request of the Armed Police Force border outpost to halt the project until the Nepal-India joint border survey team has delineated the boundary between the two countries. Mohammad Kha, the Indian contractor who oversaw the bridge construction, said his firm was commissioned to construct the bridge four years ago.
Chief District Officer Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said he would go to Khalepuruwa for inspection and take necessary steps. As the border pillars in the area are in dilapidated conditions, he said, it is difficult to separate the boundary of the two countries.
