Dhankuta tense, prohibitory order issued


Jan 18, 2018-Local administration has issued a prohibitory order in Dhankuta district on Thursday after demonstrators vandalised and torched various government offices in the district.

Locals in Dhankuta took to the streets following the government decision on Wednesday to declare Biratnagar as the Capital of Province 1. Chief District Officer Prem Prakash Upreti informed that the prohibitory order will be effective from 11:30 am in Bihibare Haat in the East, Ghumaune Chautara in the West, Debrebas to Public Service Commission office in the North and Patale Khola in the South of the district. Security personnnel informed the general public about the prohibitory order by miking at various places. Additional security personnel have been deployed from Sunsari to maintain law and order in the district. Dhankuta locals had been staging demonstration for the past few weeks demanding the district be declared the capital of province 1.

The agitated locals today vandalised various government offices and set Regional Administration Office on fire. The protesters have also torched the regional office and  division office, among other government offices, in the district.
