Cold wave claims 9 in Tarai
Jan 5, 2018-Six people have died in Saptari district as a wave of cold weather continued to shiver people across the country. The toll climbed to six following the death of three more people in the district on Thursday and Friday. According to police, Sukdev Yadav, 58, of Akabarpur, Mahadewa Rural Municipality-2, died of extreme cold on Friday morning while he was attending the nature’s call nearby an irrigation canal.
Likewise, two people died in Rajbiraj Municipality. Sixty-five-year-old Kaili Devi Khang of Rajbira-10 and Najo Begam, 60, of Rajbiraj-2, died of cold, said ward chairman Arun Yadav. Earlier, Kuldeep Raya, 36, of Birpur in Chinnamasta Rural Municipality-1, Ram Dayal Ram, 35, and Rajiya Devi Raya, 72, died of extreme cold. Rajbiraj Municipality Mayor Sambhu Yadav said that arrangements have been made to make fire at several places in coordination with district forest office and Nepal Army. In Rautahat district, the cold wave has claimed three lives in the past five days. All the deceased are from poor economic background and came to Rautahat for work.
According to Rautahat District Police Office, Maharjan Thakur, 55, of Gadimai Municipality-4, Ayodhee Raya Yadav, 75, of Raj Devi Municipalit-7, and Nek Mahammad Oli, a worker at a brick chimney based in Gadaimai, died of cold weather conditions.
