Cabinet takes no decision on provincial chiefs, temporary capital
Jan 12, 2018-A cabinet meeting on Friday took no decision regarding the appointment of provincial chiefs and fixing provincial capitals. The meeting was expected to make the twin decisions.
Government spokesperson and Minister for Information and Communications Mohan Bahadur Basnet informed that the cabinet meeting did not take any decision on appointment of provincial chiefs and fixing provincial capitals. The Election Commission has not been able to publish the final results of the provincial assembly elections as the government is yet to appoint the provincial heads and the constitution demands that the results of the provincial elections must be submitted to the respective provincial chiefs.
Meanwhile, the left alliance of CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Centre) have distanced themselves from the process saying that appointing chiefs and fixing capitals of the provinces is the responsibility of the government.
