Shah, Shrestha make it to semis
Dec 20, 2017-Rayana Shah and Sharvani Shrestha advanced into the U-14 girls’ singles semi-finals of the 15th Jayakar Memorial National Junior Tennis Tournament on Tuesday.
Rayana beat Shubhangee Laxmi Shah 6-3, 6-2 and Sharvani edged past Prakriti Shrestha 7-6, 6-4 in the quarter-finals. The duo were joined in to the last four by Isha Shree Shah and Abhilasha Bista after they registered comfortable wins at the Satdobato tennis court. Isha Shree raced to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Sneha Yadav and Bista saw off Azaa Regmi 6-1, 6-0.
The only quarter-final match of U-14 boys’ singles saw Nischal Adhikari eased to a 6-2, 6-1 win over Prasidha Moktan. In the U-18 girls’ singles, Mahika Rana beat Anne Mathema 6-3, 6-3. Nishad Joshi and Shreeyog Adhikari earned semi-final berths in the U-10 boys’ singles event. Joshi beat Darsheel Shrestha 6-0, 6-2 and Adhikari saw off Aryaman Joshi with the identical scores.
Joshi again defeated the same U-10 opponent in U-9 quarter-finals 4-1, 4-0. Rajbir Pradhan, Ayushman Hajur Ghale and Saksham Bikram Shah also made to the U-9 semi-finals. Pradhan saw off Borish Adhikari 4-0, 4-1, Ghale eased past Tenzing W Gurung 4-0, 4-0 and Shah crushed Asav Hada 4-0, 4-0.
Making it to the U-9 girls’ singles semi-finals were Prasamsha Moktan, Adya Paudel, Jenny Khadka and Sunira Thapa. Mokta beat Prateestha Lama 4-0, 4-0, Paudel saw off Shaivee Dhakal 4-0, 4-0, Khadka recovered from second set debacle to beat Nala J Maskey 4-1, 2-4, 4-1 and Thapa overcome Samriddhi Maharjan 4-0, 4-0.
In the U-18 boys’ doubles, Saroj Tamang and Safal Shrestha got walkover win in the quarter-finals while Aadit Subedi and Pranav Khanal teamed up to beat Aarav S Hada and Aryan Giri 6-3, 6-1.
