Poll body: ‘Election quiz’ also has questions on CPN-UML
Dec 4, 2017-The Election Commission has clarified that questions in the ‘Election Quiz’ currently being broadcast on 10 different television channels are fairly selected.
Responding to CPN-UML’s claims that questions in the quiz—being run as part of the voter education programme—were mostly related to the NC candidates, the commission said questions has included “The ‘Election Quiz’ has included questions on most of the candidates representing major political parties over several episodes,” said Election Commissioner Ila Sharma, addressing a press meet at the EC on Sunday.
In a press statement on Sunday, EC Spokesperson Navaraj Dhakal has also clarified that as questions on all the candidates could not be incorporated in a single episode and they have been divided into several episodes.
“The quiz programme has been divided into seven episodes with questions related to chairpersons of various political parties, senior leaders and other candidates,” the EC statement said.
In the four episodes broadcast so far, the quiz has incorporated questions on various candidates including Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN-UML senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, UML leader Yogesh Bhattarai, Rastriya Janata Party Nepal leader Rajendra Mahato, NC leader Arzu Deuba, UML candidate Nawaraj Silwal, Bibeksheel Sajha Party leader Rabindra Mishra and CPN (Maoist Centre) leader Pampha Bhusal.
Questions related to CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal, UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, UML leader Jhala Nath Khanal, Naya Shakti Party Coordinator Baburam Bhattarai, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (Prajatantrik) leader Pashupati Shumsher Rana, UML leader Lalbabu Pandit, Maoist Centre leader Agni Prasad Sapkota, NC leader Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar and UML leader Ishwor Pokharel will be telecast in the remaining episodes which have already been recorded, the EC explained.
Earlier, the UML had issued a statement questioning the authenticity of the quiz programme that has been used as part of EC’s voter education. The UML had warned the EC that it would reach a conclusion that the poll body was involved in “an institutional poll rigging” unless it comes out with an answer on this issue soon.
