Gautam leads Nepal’s drubbing of Myanmar ads-nepals-drubbing-of-myanmar

Dec 15, 2017-

Skipper Rit Gautam slammed a century while Pratis GC and Trit Raj Das  blasted half centuries as Nepal hammered hapless Myanmar by 337 runs in  the ACC U-16 Eastern Region cricket tournament in Chiang Mai, Thailand, on Thursday.Already through to the semi-finals with two consecutive wins, the result at the Terdthai Cricket Grounds on Thursday ensured Nepal finish top of the four-team Group ‘A’ with maximum six points. Electing to bat first, Nepal piled on a mammoth 350-6 in the 35-over tournament before restricting Myanmar to a lowly 13 all out in 11.3 overs. It is Nepal’s second biggest victory in any form of cricket in terms of run-margin.
Nepali senior side had beaten Maldives by 344 runs in the 2003 Youth Asia Cup. The total is, however, Nepal’s highest in U-16 cricket history. Gautam’s century is also first for Nepal in this age group. Nepal’s previous best individual score was Dipendra Chand’s 75 which he had scored against Bahrain during the 2012 ACC U-16 Elite Cup tournament. In 2006 ACC Trophy, the Nepali senior team had bundled
out Myanmar for just 10
runs in 12.1 overs before reaching the target in just two deliveries.
Openers Kushal Malla and Subodh Ayer gave Nepal a fine start putting on a 54-run stand. Malla slammed three sixes and as many fours in his 23-ball 36, while Ayer contributed a patient 22-ball 17. Bishal Bikram KC  and Gautam added 69 runs for the third wicket to kick start the run feast in the real sense. KC was out eight runs short of half century after hitting seven boundaries in his 32-ball knock.
Trit Raj Das came in to join Gautam after the dismissal of KC and together with his skipper they put on 99 runs for the fourth wicket in just 51 balls. Das was the destroyer as he clobbered seven boundaries and three sixes in an explosive knock of 64 off 29 balls.
After Narayan Joshi and Amit Kumar Yadav fell without scoring in successive balls, No 8 batsman Pratis GC gave Myanmar another cricketing lesson clobbering 10 fours and a six in his unbeaten 63 off 31 balls. Gautam remained unbeaten on 106 runs, his 78-balls knock was studded with 11 boundaries. Hein Htet Aung was pick of the Myanmar bowlers with 3-70, while Kyaw Min Htay and Phyo Zin took one wicket each.
Myanmar’s misery was far from over as they fell to a tournament low 13 in reply with seven sundries being the best contributor to the total. Narayan Joshi (4-1) and Mekh Bahadur Sen Gupta (4-4) accounting for the eight Myanmar wickets.
Nepal will take on Group ‘B’ runners-up Malaysia and Group ‘B’ winners Singapore will meet Group ‘A’ runners-up Hong Kong in the semi-finals on Saturday. Singapore also topped their pool with 100 percent winning record.
