Curfew continued in Kalikot after two-hour relaxation
Dec 24, 2017-The local administration continued the curfew order after relaxing it for two hours in Manma, the district headquarters of Kalikot, on Sunday.
The curfew was clamped since Saturday afternoon to contain the violence that erupted following the protests against the killing of a Myadi Prahari (temporary police) on Friday. The Myadis hired for election security in the district became enraged after a fellow recruit, Bibek Aidi, was shot dead by police on Friday during a protest against alleged pay cut. The 22-year-old, a native of Raskot Municipality in the district, was shot in his head. The local administration lifted the curfew for two hours this morning to allow the locals to commute and buy daily essential commodities. Chief District Officer Badrinath Gaire said the curfew was lifted for two hours from 8 to 10 in the morning to facilitate the people and request the agitating side to come for talks. The indefinite curfew order was continued as the situation seemed unlikely to limp back to normalcy.
Meanwhile, representatives from the victim’s side, civil society and political parties and district administration are holding talks to resolve the issue. Also Read: Curfew in Manma after Myadi shot dead
