Dec 20, 2017-A massive fire has broken out at a cooking gas factory in Birgunj on Wednesday morning.
The fire broke out at the factory of Super Gas in Sukhasaina at around 6 am. It is still out of control.
Two firefighters, who reached to douse the fire after it broke out, are out of contact after the fire engulfed the fire engine of Birgunj Municipality. The missing persons have been named as Madhu Sudan Mishra and Yadav Prasad Adhikari. Two others--a driver and a firefighter--were injured in the fire.
Another fire engine which reached to douse the fire had to return after it failed to get nearby.
Teams of Nepal Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police have reached the site.
Eyewitness said it is not possible to go anywhere near the fire due to huge flames.
Security personnel deployed in the site said they are unknown about the number of people working in the factory when the fire broke out. Continuous explosions of cooking gas cylinders and huge flames have hampered any rescue works.
Fire dousing equipments on their way from Raxaul
Fire dousing equipments and chemicals are on their way from Indian Oil Corporation depot in Raxaul to douse the massive fire at Super Gas factory in Birgunj.
The chemicals and equipments are on their way following coordination with the Indian consulate general's office in Birgunj.
Meanwhile, a fire engine from Simara Airport is also sought to take the fire under control.
Nearby settlements evacuated
Police has evacuated settlements nearby the gas plant where the fire has broken out. Security personnel said they took this measure to prevent any further damage due to the fire.
