Dec 21, 2017-The flood affected families of Khaptol settlement in Biratnagar-19 have received makeshift shelters after four months of the disaster.
The representatives of Sahara Nepal Savings and Credit Cooperative and Habitat for Humanity Nepal handed over the makeshift homes to 125 families, who had been living in a poor condition after their huts were swept away by the August flood.
“We were living in a miserable condition until now. We are grateful to Sahara Nepal and Habitat for Humanity for building these shelters,” said Rina Rishidev, a flood victim.
Khaptol is a squatter settlement located near Singhiya stream. The people of this settlement do not have property of their own.
After the flood destroyed their huts, they had been unable to built new ones due to poverty. “We just moved to our new shelters. Before this, we had no proper place to live,” said another flood victim Kangres Rishidev.
Ghana Shyam Adhikari, chief of Sahara Nepal, said they had partnered with Habitat for Humanity to house the landless people of Khaptol, who were displaced after the flood.
